Significant Events:  Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond), Captain Marvel, Vixen, and the Shining Knight chase down the Shadow Thief.  In the process, the Shadow Thief swipes the Shining Knight's sword & stabs Firestorm in the chest.  Not only does this melt an "indestructible" sword, but, for some reason, it creates a chain reaction that inexplicably causes Firestorm to explode and, seemingly, die.  But not before Ronnie flies a safe distance away from everyone.  This leads directly into Firestorm, Vol. 3, No. 6.

After receiving a distress signal Firestorm and Green Arrow soon realize the evil Mantis has transformed the statue of liberty into a salute to Darkseid. A battle ensues with Mantis who has stolen Superman's powers. The ingenious Firestorm transforms the statue of liberty into kryptonite to defeat Mantis, who has also acquired the Man of Steel's weakness along with his powers. The three heroes are captured in a prison dimension by Darkseid from an Omega beam eye blast, but they are able to escape from Darkseid's clutches in the end.

The trick is effective and New York City is saved.
